For most people, social media is nothing more than absent-minded browsing of doggo memes and those Tasty cooking videos whose recipes contain far too much salt and cheese. Yet, for others, including myself, social media is a portal to a wide pool of knowledge not typically available so easily offline. It's a hub of news sources, both mainstream and independent, and grants unparalled access to opposing views and those with the wits enough to defend them or attack yours. As someone who uses Facebook daily to engage in political discussion and debates, I can safely say that I am the opposite of "stupified" by my use of social media. Being stupified by social media use is a choice. Social media in itself is not the problem. People are.
